Summary

Calculates crew breaks for long haul airplaine pilots or flight attendant. Each of them has a dedicated screen.

Functionalities

- 3 break patterns : 1, 2 ou 3 breaks for flight attendant , and an extented mode for pilots where breaks can have different relative length..
- 2 calculation modes :  Overall flight time overflow allowed or not.
- Optional rounding to 5 minutes.

Because its even better when working is fun , you can freely download a wall paper from the application , as well as taking a picture from the camera.


Installation
 
Currently distributed on the Android Market. Later on ,a PayPal version should be available for people who do not have a Google account. Once installed, the application will switch to the smartphone language ( french, or english)

Usage


Starting the application


 
Once installed , click on the green icon.

The application has 2 modes ,depending on the user ( 'Pilot' or 'Flight Attendant' ) .

'Flight Attendant'  is the default mode , which you can change back and forth using your handset 'menu' button. Just click the menu entry ( 'Pilot' or 'Flight Attendant' ).You choice will persist for a later use of the application.




Calculation ( 'Pilot' Mode)




The main screen is a form where you have to edit.

Enter the desired breaks sequence.

There are 2 input formats available : A simple one and an advanced one.

   - The simple format  requires 1 digit which defines the number of desired breaks.
    For instance , '2' says one want a serie  of 2 breaks with a time interval in between. The interval is defined in another field.

   - The advanced one is a serie of integer or decimal values . Each value is 1 digit with an optional prefix.
      Example:
      '3' means 3 , '.3' means 0.3 and '/3' means 1/3 = 0.33333 ...
      With this format , the number of digits represents the number of breaks.The digit itself tells the relative length of breaks.
   
      For instance , 31 means there are 2 breaks with a constant time interval in between , and the first break is 3 times the second break.
   
    There are sevral ways to specify the same breaks sequence , for instance .3/3 et 55 mean the same.(break 1=1 * break 2)and are another writing of '11'
     Just use the values and format that is the most intuitive to you. Its probably wise to use integers with the smallest break equals to 1.

    The most generic syntax is  CODE 1 , ... , CODE N , where  CODE = DIGIT  or '.' DIGIT or  '\' DIGIT and N <=4

    The screenshots expose a situation where we want a serie of  4 breaks , where the break number 2 and 4 in are 2 times longer than the 2 others.
    Hence the vale '1212'

- First break start time , with 4 digits ( HHMM  format ).
- Last break start time , with 4 digits ( HHMM  format ).
- Break transition interval , with 2 digits (MM format).
- Press 'Calculate'

Hint:

Hold your finger for a second on a field to get a tooltip.



The break sequence appears.

To simplify the results  , check the checkbox 'Round' which will round break times to a multiple of 5 minutes.

   

Remark::

A flight time overflow would display in red. This would only happen if you check 'overflow allowed'
However , this will result in even simpler breaks , which have the same length.
When relative break weights are different , breaks with the same weight would have the same length in this case.

Calculation ( 'Flight Attendant' Mode )

This mode has minor differences.

3 buttons remplace and simplify the 'rest sequence' texfield , which , as far as we know , is not needed by flight attendants.
From left to right , each button respectively defines 1,2 or 3 breaks when activated. Also ,instead of the 'End of break' time , you have to specify:

- The second service length ,  which has a default value of 1 hour
- The descent time.



The result will look similar to the pilot mode , but you will get an extra line for the second service.



Customization:



       

Pressing the smarpthone's 'menu' key , will take you to the customization screen.

Then , either press photo to take a snapshot and use it as wallpaper. Hold your finger for a second to take the snapshot.


Or , you may download a picture as a wall paper. Enter the picture location in the text field and press download.

You may press 'Delete' to get rid of the wall paper.

Camera configuration

With Android 2.0 and above , this is not required. Otherwise , you may have to select the suitable definition for your camera device , as described here.
